Omar José Guerra Fernández was born and raised in Guamal, Magdalena, Colombia. In 2005, he obtained his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the Universidad Industrial de Santander, Bucaramanga, Santander, Colombia. Omar received an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from São Paulo University, São Paulo, Brazil, in 2009, and was awarded a Ph.D degree in Chemical Engineering by Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, United States, in 2017. After finishing his Ph.D, he joined the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Golden, Colorado, as a postdoctoral researcher (promoted to research engineer in May 2020) at the Power System Design and Planning (PSDP) group. He is conducting research to develop a better understanding of the economics of renewable energy technologies, including energy storage, hydrogen, wind power, solar photovoltaic power, and CO2 electrolysis technologies.
